"Dear Friends,
I am delighted that the Trust has been granted ISO certification. Congratulations, on this important recognition of the work that you are doing. I am honoured to be associated with such an outstanding organisation it is only outstanding because of the outstanding staff that run it, in the three centres and CBR programmes in Cambodia, at the school in Phnom Penh and the fundraisers and organisers in Britain. I give thanks for all of you, you are doing a splendid job."
Desmond M Tutu
Archbishop Emeritus, Cambodia Trust Patron
The Cambodia Trust is the first non-business organisation to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification in Cambodia; and among the first in the world.
Certification for our work in Cambodia was
attained in 2002. This has helped us to strengthen
our operations and build capacity amongst our staff,
ensuring that our work is technically and
managerially sustainable. ISO certification gives
us a system we can use to continue to improve
our work and demonstrates that we are a quality
organization, recognized to an international
standard.
Impact on beneficiaries
The main goals of the ISO standard are "customer" satisfaction and continual improvement to services.
ISO certification has improved our client focus by looking at what disabled people really need. Now we find out from disabled people themselves,
what their problems are and how we can help them to improve their lives. This information is collected and shared through feedback, survey and audit.
What is ISO?
The International Organisation for Standardisation, a standards development body, formed in 1947 with a central secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. National standards bodies from 148 countries, including developing countries and leading industrial nations are among its members.
What is ISO 9001:2000?
It is a set of universally understood and accepted quality practices; a comprehensive set of rules that, if followed, will improve the performance of an organisation. The main goals of the ISO 9001:2000 standard are beneficiary satisfaction and continual improvement.
Why did the Cambodia Trust seek ISO 9001:2000 certification?
We wanted to find ways of strengthening the Trusts structure and building the capacity of our staff. After much research, implementing a quality management system like ISO 9001:2000 was decided to be the way forward.
With funding from the New Zealand Government, preparation for the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 began in 1999. Our certification was awarded on March 18 2002 and maintained following an external evaluation in 2005.
Certification is an acknowledgement of the commitment and hard work of the staff of the Cambodia Trust. It gives a message of stability and competence, which we hope will help in raising funds for our work and encouraging foreign investment in the country.
